Safety Criticals | LATUS
In occupational health, "safety critical" refers to jobs or
tasks where an employee's health condition could
significantly impact their ability to perform their duties
safely, potentially endangering themselves or others.
Safety critical medicals are specialised health
assessments designed to ensure that employees in
these roles are physically and mentally fit for duty.
There are clear pass/fail criteria and only if all elements
are passed, will the individual be deemed fit to
undertake that role.
High-risk activities: operating heavy machinery,
driving vehicles, working at heights, handling
hazardous materials.
Responsibility for others’ safety: air traffic
controllers, train drivers, security personnel etc.
Critical infrastructure: workers in power plants,
refineries, or other essential services
