Fit for Work

Fit for Work medicals
A fit for work medical is a health assessment that determines if an employee
is physically and mentally fit to perform their job duties.
Several Industries require workers to have a medical assessment prior to
them starting work on a particular site or role. These medicals are required
for individuals undertaking a role that puts themselves and/or others at high
risk of injury or ill health. For example, working at height or driving a heavy
goods vehicle.
Assessments are designed to assess if an individual is fit enough to undertake
a particular task or job role. Whether they are just joining a company or their
role has changed or their health has changed, the employer needs to
determine if they can still safely undertake their job.
Depending on the safety implications, more in depth and specific testing is
sometimes required. There are clear pass/fail criteria.
