In the rail industry, Personal Track Safety (PTS)
medicals are mandatory occupational health
assessments for all workers who need access to or
work on or near railway tracks in the UK. These
assessments are crucial for ensuring the safety of
both railway workers and the public.
Purpose of PTS Medicals:
Assess Fitness for Duty: Determine if an individual's
health condition allows them to safely perform their
duties on or near railway lines.
Identify Potential Risks: Uncover any medical
conditions that could impair judgment, reaction time,
or physical ability, potentially leading to accidents or
injuries.
Comply with Regulations: Meet the stringent health
and safety requirements set by Network Rail and
other relevant regulatory bodies.
Regularity: PTS medicals must be renewed
periodically, typically every two years, to ensure
ongoing fitness for duty.
