Biological
Monitoring
Biological Monitoring
Biological
monitoring
involves
the
assessment of an employee's biological
fluids (such as blood or urine) to determine
their exposure to workplace hazards. This
can include exposure to chemicals, heavy
metals, or other substances. Biological
monitoring helps identify individuals who
may be at increased risk of health
problems due to occupational exposure
and allows for appropriate interventions to
minimise harm.
Biological monitoring involves taking
either a blood, urine or breathe sample,
and is carried out predominantly in areas
that require some form of PPE (personal
protective equipment) such as gloves or
mask.
Typical checks involve for isocyanates or
blood lead.
